Tiara Greville / The Greville Tiara

The story of this tiara begins in 1901 when Mrs. Greville, a prominent figure in British high society and daughter of a multimillionaire, commissioned a tiara, made from gems she owned, for the coronation of King Edward VII. The final result consisted of a completely closed diadem with high flower-Lotus motifs.

In 1921 Mrs. Greville asked the jeweler Boucheron to reformulate the design of the tiara. The piece acquired a geometric pattern that resembles honeycombs and it could be used as a bandeau.

After Mrs. Greville's death in 1942, much of her jewelry, including this tiara, was left in testament to Queen Elizabeth (mother of the present Queen). The wife of King George VI used the jewel for the first time in 1947 after the end of World War II during a visit to South Africa.

However Elizabeth also decided to give it a special touch and in 1953 asked Cartier to add some diamonds and the upper tiara arrangement was slightly altered, resulting in a higher piece.
It has become a favorite piece of the Queen, being used on several occasions, including official portraits.

In 2002 with the death of the Queen mother the tiara returned to the royal vaults. In 2006 it appeared again by the head of the Duchess of Cornwall (recently married to the Prince of Wales). This tiara has been her choice for the vast majority of the most formal events.

I really enjoy seeing this piece at the Duchess of Cornwall because the way her hair is worked is the perfect frame for this majestic piece. Camilla is generally also very predictable and simplistic in choosing jewelry to complete this diadem, and this also helps us to admire this piece in all its splendor.

E vocês?
