Mary ocupou um lugar de destaque no inicio da sessão na mesa do plenário.
E discursou como Patrona da WHO Europe sobre a importância da melhoria das condições de saúde na Europa e como isso influencia no desenvolvimento de uma sociedade e direcção ao progresso e para um desenvolvimento sustentável da economia europeia (e mundial).

Mary realçou ainda que apesar de todo o desenvolvimento tecnológico que estamos a viver na área da pesquisa científica, talvez a maior mudança esteja na maneira como as pessoas começaram a encarar a saúde. A sua maneira de pensar sobre este tema tem vindo a evoluir. O grande paradigma surge quando as pessoas passam a pensar em criar e manter saúde em vez de simplesmente prevenir e tratar doenças. A saúde passou a ser um tema de responsabilidade de todos os cidadãos.
Mary also stressed that despite all the technological development that we are living in the area of scientific research, perhaps the biggest change is in the way people started to think about health. Their way of thinking on this issue has evolved. The great paradigm arises when people begin to think about creating and maintaining health rather than simply preventing and treating diseases. Health has become a liability issue for all citizens.
