Como é hábito, a festa começou à porta da residência oficial da Família do Príncipe da Coroa em Asker.

Vestidos a rigor Haakon e Mette-Marit, acompanhados pelos filhos, Marius (filho de uma antiga relação de Mette-Marit), Ingrid Alexandra e Sverre Magnus e pelo cães da família, saudaram num dia chuvoso, dezenas de crianças que desfilaram e acenaram com bandeiras nacionais em dia de celebração.

Mais tarde foi tempo para trocar de roupa e aparecer ao balcão do Palácio Real juntamente com o rei Harald e a Rainha Sonja para saudar o desfile de crianças que tradicionalmente tem lugar nas celebrações do Dia Nacional da Noruega.

Numa tradição que remonta a 1906, durante o reinado do Rei Haakon e da Rainha Maud, é costume a família real saudar a partir da varanda do Palácio Real, todas as crianças que participem no desfile pelas ruas de Oslo. Este ano cerca de 60.000 crianças participaram no cortejo.
In a tradition dating back to 1906 during the reign of King Haakon and Queen Maud, it is customary the royal family to greet from the balcony of the Royal Palace, all children participating in the parade through the streets of Oslo. This year about 60,000 children participated in the procession.
