O primeiro discurso da Duquesa de Brabant / Duchess of Brabant's first speech

Hello everyone. Last week I was absent without notice, but today I return with one of the highlights of last week. At least for me ...

With the ascent to the throne of new Kings, as in Netherlands, Belgium and Spain, attention has also turned to the new Queens and to the newest European heiresses. All of them girls, by the way, Catharina-Amalia, Elisabeth and Leonor respectively won the titles of Princess of Orange, Duchess of Brabant and Princess of Asturias by their own right and take first place in the line of succession to their respective thrones.
If in the case of Willem-Alexander and Maxima of the Netherlands, the new monarchs have tryed to safeguard the most of childhood of their eldest daughter, Philippe and Mathilde of Belgium and Felipe and Letizia of Spain, for their hand,  have gradually including their heirs in official acts.

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant, aged 12, perhaps because she is older, already has some presence in official acts with their parents. The most important of all has happened last Friday, where the future Queen of Belgium spoke in front of hundreds of people, including their parents, during a ceremony in memory of those who fell during the First World War.

In an event called "Light Front" over 8,000 pesssoas carried torches for about 80km, at the same location where the Belgian and Allied soldiers confronted the Germans in the front. It was precisely in the closing ceremony of the event that the Princess read the speech written by her, in front of the Ploegsteert Memorial.

The video of the speech can be seen here. Elisabeth spoke in French, Flemish and German.

Violência, medo e ódio faziam parte do dia-a-dia.
Homens, mulheres e crianças tentavam fugir.
As suas casas, escolas, vilas estavam destruídas.
Nunca esqueceremos as vítimas que tombaram no nosso país.
Nunca esqueceremos todas essas vidas destruídas no nosso país.
Ainda hoje, a guerra destrói vidas.

And in english:
"100 years ago the First World War began.
Thousands of soldiers have left their families to go to the front.
Violence, fear and hunger were part of everyday life.
Men, women and children tried to flee.
Their homes, schools, villages were destroyed.
We will never forget the victims who perished in our country.
We will never forget all those lives destroyed in our country.
Even today, the war ruins lives.
Fathers, mothers and children are separated.
But their misfortunes can also give us a lesson of life and dignity.
Their memoirs invite us all to commit ourselfs for a better world of justice and peace.
It is up to us, the young people, to lift up the torch and form now a Light Front "

Philippe and Mathilde could not be more proud of their eldest daughter.
Elisabeth is one of those kids that conveys serenity, calm and safety on an impressive way. Sure that her early involvement in the official acts will prepare the young princess very well for a future filled with official duties.
